RAHMAN’S DOUBLE GRAMMY!

The double Oscar winner Rahman has done it once again! This time he has bagged the double Grammy awards! He won the award for best compilation soundtrack and best motion picture song for Jai Ho in Slumdog Millionaire. Lyricist Gulzar shares the award with Rahman. Tanvi Shah, who penned the lyrics in Spanish also shares the award.

The elated music director is reported to have said, “This is insane, god is great again.” Other Indians that have won the Grammy earlier are Pandit Ravi Shankar, Vikku Vinayak, Zakir Hussain, and Vishvamohan Bhatt.

Rahman beat Steve Jordan for ‘Cadillac Records,’ Quentin Tarantino for ‘Inglorious Basterds,’ and the producers of ‘Twilight’ and ‘True Blood’ in the soundtrack category to win the coveted award.

Vijay seeks change!

Take a look at the kind of movies Vijay has been doing over the past 3-4 years. The formula is pretty much the same: dance, action, punch dialogues plus a little family sentiment. As for his looks, there again there is very minimal change. The maximum he has done was straighten his fair for a song in Vettaikaran.

But just when you start thinking you know exactly what to expect from his next movie Sura, he says that he is more than willing to try something new. He is willing to do experimental stories, try out new looks, anything. The problem, he insists, is that producers are not willing to fund such movies that star him!

They have seen what works, and are willing to finance only such scripts, and hence the actor has no choice but to go by the formula. However, he adds that he does make it a point to show newness in terms of his style, dance moves and action blocks from one movie to the next and when you come to think of it, it's true! So, Sura is going to follow formula, but just remember not to point your finger at the actor for the sameness!

After Madhavan it is ‘Jayam’ Ravi who hasn’t lost his female fans even after marriage. This chocolate hero is humility personified even after a string of hits. He confirms his next film is ‘Ich’ and not ‘Kannabiraan’. The first schedule of ‘Ich’ starts in March.

When asked about anything special from home front ‘Jayam’ Ravi blushes. Yes, there is something something.  ‘Jayam’ Ravi will soon become a proud Papa. He and his wife Arthi are expecting their first child in another six months time.

Ajith playing a cop in Gautham’s next?

After seeing ultimate star Ajith at the Aasal audio launch, speculations are spreading like wildfire about his next movie with ace director Gautham Menon. The star's stylish crew cut gave rise to speculatiion if it would be a police story.

With Gautham directing, this could be a good guess. Remember, Gautham's police stories Kaakka Kaakka with Suriya and Vettayaadu Vilayaadu with Kamal Haasan were huge box office hits.

Now, Ajith's 50th film with Gautham Menon produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri is believed to be a police story too. Ajith has played a cop in Anjaneya, but the film was not too successful, so we hope it’s time Ajith tastes succes in a thrilling cop story.

Sources close to the actor reveal that Ajith’s next would be a totally different police story.

Soundarya- GOA’S FATE

Kamalesh Kothari, a financier based in Chennai, has filed a petition against Soundarya Rajinikanth and has asked for a stay order on the release of Goa. Goa, which is slated for release on January 29th, has been produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Ochre Studios.

According to the petitioner, Soundarya approached him for a Rs. 2-crore loan and promised Rs. 30 lakhs as royalty along with the interest. She also promised to return the amount even before the release of the film. With the impending release, there is no sign of her returning the amount, states the petitioner.

The issue will be taken up for hearing on January 28th 2010. Let’s wait for the outcome.

Soundarya Rajinikanth marrying Ashwin

An engineering graduate, Ashwin did his higher studies in the United States. He is currently looking after his father’s construction business. Betrothal for this love-cum-arranged marriage will take place in Chennai on February 17. Wedding date will be announced later.
